ABOUT
Husband and father. Painter. In that order. I paint the things I see every day. I’m particularly interested in finding and attempting to capture the less obvious beauty that I find in the mundane and ordinary aspects of everyday life. The subject matter presents itself depending on where I decide to focus. It doesn’t need me to improve it or give it a post-modern reinterpretation. My ongoing goal as a painter is to develop the discernment to capture that which is true.
“Beauty is truth; Truth beauty.” I never understood that, but I feel like I’m starting to. Capturing that truth that’s there, whether it’s a bouquet of flowers, a giant disco ball cowboy hat or a Waffle House on an off-ramp, gives others the opportunity to appreciate that less obvious beauty as well. And when you can communicate that universal truth, it’s a beautiful thing. Trying to reach that point as a painter is an on-going process and it can be very humbling, especially when you’re working it out on the side of the road or a streetcorner for everyone to see.
But it’s worth it.
